7 Forbidden Foods For Weight Loss

To lose weight not only you need to be pretty aware of what you
eat, when you eat, how much you eat but also have the
understanding about the food you should avoid as much as
possible. There are some foods which if you consume them on a
daily basis will slow down or even prevent you from losing
weight.

Those foods can be included into your diet sparingly, on a day
you treat yourself.

1. Caffeine

This is applicable not only for coffee or tea but also to
anything that has caffeine in it, like coke or pepsi. Since you
need to drink a lot of water in order to lose weight, put a
slice of lemon or lime in it. Taste delicious.

Drinking coffee on a daily basis became a habit for most of us
and we stopped counting how many coffee cups we had per day. We
start the day with a delicious cappuccino or latte from the cafe
on our way to work, then drinking it on every break we have,
even finishing with the last cup after the dinner. The truth is
you have to start controlling this habit. Have the most one cup
of coffee per day.

2. Alcohol

This is a big enemy in any weight loss plan. It is alright to
drink a glass of wine with your dinner two or three times a
week, but not the entire bottle. Moderation is the key with
alcoholic beverages. The best way is to have a drink on your
treat day only.

3. Pre Packaged Foods

As a big rule, stay away from these products as much as you
can. They contain a lot of chemicals and are not going to be
good for your diet. To lose weight you must eat your food as
fresh as possible and not to rely on those pre packed foods
stuffed with loads of saturated fat. In this way your wish to
become thinner will fade away.

4. White rice, bread, pastas

Those are the products which you should eat only occasionally,
maybe when you are eating out or visiting your family and
friends. They contain starches that can inhibit your weight
loss. Go for brown rice, whole meal bread and pastas. They taste
just as good.

5. Canned and Jar Foods

Anything that is canned or jarred should be avoided as they
contain huge amounts of sugar and salt. The best choice is to
stick to fresh fruits and vegetables.

6. Meat

The best choice is to go on a vegetarian diet. Use pulses, soya
products and green vegetables as a substitute for meat. They
have lots of healthy protein and are low in fat.

7. Dairy

If you like milk, the first choice should be skimmed milk over
whole milk. Drink milk in moderation. Cheese contains lots of
fat so avoid it at all cost. If you however really can not live
without it, go for the low fat option and use it sparingly. Eggs
may be alright if you use only the whites. You can buy the egg
substitute instead when baking or cooking at home.

Lose Weight During The Holidays? How To Get Double Credit For Every Lost Pound!

If you've been struggling with your excess fat, the prospect of
the upcoming holidays may well fill you with dread.

You barely fit in your clothes as is. If things go the way they
usually go during the holidays, you may have to join the
post-holiday shopping crowds out of necessity! You won't have a
thing to wear - because nothing will fit anymore.

I don't know about you, but that prospect always makes me
cringe. I've been there, and I'd rather not repeat it.

Which is why I have occasionally approached the holiday season
in a rather contrarian spirit when it comes to my intake of
food. And I'm planning to do it again this year.

How's that? Easy.

There are two major weight loss facts that work in my favor
here:

Every pound I lose between Thanksgiving and early January
counts twice!

It's a matter of simple math!

As you know, those of us already struggling with extra weight
can easily add 10 pounds or more during a few weeks of reckless
ingestion of cookies and eggnog. I've done it before, and I
don't care to repeat that particular feat.

Now imagine this: Instead of adding 10 pounds, how would you
feel if you were to lose 10 pounds instead. Or even "just" 5
pounds. You'd be way ahead of the game, wouldn't you.

Sure, it'll be a bit of a hassle. Maybe even a big hassle. But
just for a few weeks. Meanwhile, if you keep the pay-off in
mind, it will feel so worth it.

But it wouldn't be half as good an idea if it weren't for fat
loss secret number two:

Most people's bodies seem to respond very nicely to alternating
high and low calorie intake days.

There are several diets that feature this technique, including
renegade versions of traditional ones. Just check out the Wendie
Plan, Wendie's version of Weight Watchers, where she distributes
the 35 extra "points" over just 3 to 4 of the 7 days, thereby
creating quite some ups and downs.

The weight though will just go down, down, and down some more
because that kind of "weight cycling" prevents our bodies from
turning into metabolic slugs.

Imagine the potential of this little trick. You could work its
magic by simply planning some diet days alternating with some
less restrictive days - carefully scheduling the more generous
allotments for the days with office parties, family Christmas
celebrations, and so on.

That's exactly what I'm going to do.

Yes, I know! It's going to be hard with all the seasonal
goodies around.

So let's review the benefits:

If you DO lose weight NOW, it will count DOUBLE!

Instead of gaining 10 pounds, you could LOSE 10 pounds!

Net loss: 20 pounds, maybe even more!

Wouldn't THAT be worth a little awkwardness around the punch
bowl? Imagine being that much slimmer come New Year's Eve!
Imagine the dress you'd be able to wear -- the one that hasn't
fit you in ages! Imagine all your friends having piled on the
pounds in the meantime, wondering how the heck you managed to
actually get thinner!

Go ahead. You deserve to look and feel great! Make that new and
improved body your own personal Christmas present.

At Last! A Scientifically Proven And Amazing Way To Loose Weight

Americans spend an estimated $30 billion a year on various
types of diet programs and products, including diet foods, pills
and drinks. You don't need to add your hard earned cash to these
statistics.

If you have ever eaten junk food or processed food and then
wished you hadn't because you felt tired and heavy or bloated;
If you've ever tried fad diets or yo-yo diets only to pile the
weight back on; If you have tried diet recipes and its cost you
a fortune to buy the ingredients and endless time to cook; If
you ever feel down about being overweight or obese; If you ever
get fed up of being preached to about all the things you
shouldn't do, you're simply fighting the flab rather than
eliminating it naturally.

Overweight people increase the risk of high blood pressure,
heart disease, and many other illnesses. Meditation and losing
weight reduces the risk.

Using meditation to lose weight is definitely worth your
consideration. So many people from all walks of life enjoy
amazing and long-term results. By releasing stress through
meditation people find they no longer have the need to comfort
eat. One of the most powerful mind and body techniques involve
combining visualization with meditation for weight loss. It has
been proven over and over again that what you are imagining in
the present moment will be what life grants you in the future.

Very often the mental picture that we have of ourselves when we
focus on dieting conflicts with the end result that we really
desire. Our mind is often filled with doubts and negative
thoughts. Using meditation and visualization will erase these
doubts and allow you to watch the new you reappear. Focus on the
result that you truly desire and always remember "As a man
thinketh so is he."

If you don't understand much about meditation and
visualization, don't worry, I will explain further on how you
can learn simply through a free guided meditation course.

It has been scientifically proven that people who practice
meditation have shown marked improvements in their mental and
physical health. Clinical studies reveal that meditation helps
lower blood pressure and respiratory rates, reduces anxiety and
cures insomnia. It is because of these results that more and
more doctors are recognizing the therapeutic benefits of
meditation and are suggesting that their patients learn
meditation. Many people use meditation to lose weight or cure
addictive behaviors like smoking, alcohol and others learn
meditation to alleviate many stress related illnesses. Some
learn meditation to find inner peace and happiness, while others
want to be more in touch with their spiritual self.

When you combine meditation with visualization, imagine the new
you. Feel how your new body feels and see how good you look. See
your beautiful or handsome image as you walk down the beach
towards the sea in a fabulous swimsuit or pair of shorts. Feel
the wind in your hair and the cool breeze on your body. Feel the
spring in your step and the song in your heart as you give
thanks for your healthy life. Feel the happiness bubbling inside
as you see your family watching you with love and pride. Breathe
deeply and feel ecstatic as the sea air fills your healthy lungs
and body. Experience the confidence, total bliss and inner peace
that encompass your whole body.

"Scientists study it. Doctors recommend it. Millions of
Americans - many of whom don't even own crystals - practice it
every day. Why? Because meditation works…" Time Magazine

Rapid Weight Loss – What's Wrong With It?

Every dieter wants to lose weight fast, but every reliable
piece of diet information says that slow and steady is the key
to success. What's wrong with rapid weight loss, anyway, and
why does weight that comes off quickly usually return just as
fast?

To understand the problem with rapid weight loss, you need to
remember that our bodies did not evolve in modern time, where
food is plentiful and our next meal is never more than a couple
of hours away. Rather, our bodies are designed to convert any
spare food we eat into reserves that will help us get through
long periods where food is scarce. Those reserves are our fat
deposits – the body's best defense against starvation.

Fat is an extremely efficient method of storing energy for
later use, and our bodies are reluctant to part with it,
especially if there is any hint that hungry times are ahead.
If we try to achieve rapid weight loss, our bodies panic,
thinking that we are in danger of starvation. They will
sacrifice nearly anything else to hold onto those precious,
life-preserving fat stores.

With rapid weight loss, what you are really losing is water
weight and muscle tissue. This is particularly bad because
muscle tissue burns more calories at rest, helping you to lose
weight even when you are not exercising.

Rapid weight loss makes you fell lethargic and drained, because
your body is trying to conserve energy. Furthermore, you will
be assailed with hunger pangs and cravings, since your body is
trying to warn you of impending starvation. This makes it very
difficult to stay on your diet.

When your body does receive food after a starvation threat, it
stores as much of it as possible as fat, to replenish the
reserves against another "food shortage." This is why many
dieters put on weight again quickly after they resume their
normal eating habits.

The body's defense mechanisms are extremely important when in
danger of starving. In fact, many of us would not be here
today if our ancestors hadn't had this sophisticated protection
against hunger to get them through long winters. However, it
does mean that dieters today have much more success if they
work slowly to lose those extra pounds, instead of insisting on
rapid weight loss.

Quick Ways To Lose Weight | Tips To Help You Lose 50 Pounds Or More

Setting Goals When Dieting

As with most things in life, setting goals is very important
when dieting. When you look at things truthfully and
objectively you should notice that most of the things you've
accomplished in life have been accomplished because you not
only had a goal but also had a clearly planned and well thought
out process for achieving that goal. That being said, why is
goal setting so important when it comes to dieting?

First of all, it is difficult to achieve a goal if you do not
have a clearly defined goal. There are times in life when it is
almost impossible to tell whether you are succeeding or failing
because you aren't certain exactly what the desired outcome
should be. Identifying your dieting goals before you begin
eliminates this particular possibility.

Second, having dieting goals gives you a measuring stick by
which you can judge your process. This is important so that you
know when your efforts are failing behind and when you're moving
along schedule or ahead of schedule. In other words, you will
know when to celebrate and when to give yourself a swift kick
to the rear.

Now that we know why we set weight loss goals, let's discuss
how we should go about setting those goals that are so
important for dieting success. You want to set goals that are
aggressive without being impossible to achieve. If you set
goals that are beyond your reach you will find that frustration
will be your dieting partner until you reach the point where you
give up all together. In order to avoid this you should take
great care to insure that your goals are possible for you to
achieve.

When it comes to weight loss be specific when setting your
goals. Rather than setting a total goal of 40 or 60 pounds
start with a specific goal such as 10 pounds in one month. Then
you can extend the goal to the next month until you've reached
the overall goal of 40 or 60 pounds. It is much easier to lose
10 pounds four times than it is to lose 40 pounds at once. It's
a trick of the mind but it works. Ten pounds sounds simple and
achievable. Forty pounds sounds like an insurmountable
obstacle.

Another thing about goals is that you want to hold yourself
accountable but you shouldn't call the whole thing off if you
only lose 9 pounds instead of 10. Instead, find out where you
dropped the ball for the final pound and set your 10-pound goal
for the next month.

You should also take great care that you are working with your
personal goals and not the goals that someone else is pushing
on you. The truth is that if it's personal to you, it will be
much more rewarding than if you are doing this for someone
else. If your heart isn't in it, there are very few goals that
are going to motivate you properly.

Finally, you should establish small (non-food) rewards for
accomplishing your dieting goals. Perhaps your reward will be a
new accessory for your new (or new old) wardrobe or a pedicure
for your new look. Make your reward something fun and frivolous
and teach yourself that accomplishing your goals can be
accomplished by something other than food. This is a key to
dieting successfully.

Avoid Fad Diets That Promise Magic Cures And Miracle Weight Loss

Fad diets are appealing because they usually promise slim and trim figures with very little effort. Most fad diets work in the beginning, but diets that restrict certain food groups or promise unrealistic results are difficult and/or unhealthy to sustain over time. When you go back to your usual eating patterns, the weight comes back on and sometimes with extra pounds.

This is called the “yo-yo effect” of losing and regaining weight.

The trick to losing weight and keeping it off is to find an everyday eating plan that takes and keeps the pounds off while providing a right balance of calories and nutrition. This combination requires a lifestyle change.

A fad diet that results in quick weight loss early on, if followed for a long period of time, may result in potential health problems. Losing weight effectively involves:

• Eating an appropriate number of calories from a balanced diet rich in fresh fruits and vegetables, whole grains, and fat-free dairy products

• Cutting back on nutrient-poor foods

• Physical activity

You will know it is a fad diet if it:

• Promises magic or miracle foods that burn fat

• Requires you to eat unusual quantities of only one food or food type

• Requires rigid menus of a limited selection of foods to be eaten at specific times and days

• Requires you to eat specific food combinations in certain sequences or combinations

• Promises rapid weight loss of more than two pounds per week

• Has no warning for those with diabetes or high blood pressure to seek medical advice before starting the diet

• Does not include increased physical activity as part of the plan

The best way to fight cardiovascular disease is a healthy diet with an exercise routine lifestyle.
Follow these simple steps as part of your healthy lifestyle:

• Burn at least as many calories as you take in: Keep a record of how many calories you should be eating and drinking to maintain your weight. Don’t eat more calories than you know you can burn up every day. Increase the intensity of your physical activity to match the number of calories you take in. Set a goal of at least 30 minutes of moderate physical activity on most days of the week. For best results, aim for at least 30 minutes every day.

• Eat a variety of nutritious foods from all the food groups: Even though you may eat plenty of food daily, if it is not a variety from all the food groups, your body still may not be getting the nutrients it needs to be healthy. To get the nutrients you need, choose foods such as vegetables, fruits, whole-grain products and fat-free or low-fat dairy products most often.

• Eat fish at least twice per week containing omega-3 fatty acids such as salmon, trout and herring

• Eat less of the nutrient-poor foods: Limit foods and beverages that are high in calories but low in nutrients. Limit how much saturated fat, trans fat, cholesterol and sodium you eat. Read food labels carefully. The food labels will tell you how much of those nutrients each food or beverage contains.

• Drink at least 8 eight-ounce glasses of water each day. Watch the food labels on bottled water. Some bottled water contains high amounts of sodium; others contain extra calories and sugar. Look for bottled water with “0” calories, fat, sodium, and sugar.

Base your eating pattern on these recommendations daily:

• Choose lean meats and poultry without skin and prepare them without added saturated and trans fats

• Select fat-free, 1 percent fat, and low-fat dairy products

• Cut back on foods containing partially hydrogenated vegetable oils to reduce trans fat in your diet

• Cut back on beverages and foods with added sugar

• Choose and prepare foods with little or no salt. Keep sodium amounts at less than 2,300 milligrams per day

• If you drink alcohol, drink in moderation: One drink per day if you are a woman and two drinks per day if you are a man

• Don’t smoke tobacco and stay away from tobacco smoke

Weight Loss Diets: Fact And Fiction, Part 2

Now that we have looked at some very common fallacies, let's
take a look at some important weight loss facts. These facts
can make a huge difference to your ability to achieve your
weight loss goals and then maintaining your new weight in a
healthy manner.

Weight Loss Takes Time

Genuine, healthy, permanent weight loss takes time. It is a
gradual process and it is not going to happen overnight.
Extreme weight loss diets that promise quick results do not
promote good health and even if the person does lose weight
quickly, more often than not, they gain more back than they
lost. This manner of dieting actually causes weight gain in the
long term.

Weight Loss Requires A Lifestyle Change

The first thing that has to change if you want to lose weight
is your diet; not only what you eat, but how much you eat. A
lot of people take in more calories every day than they
actually use. If this continues over time, a person can gain a
lot of weight and yet not appear to be overeating. Effectively,
to lose weight you have to burn more calories than you eat. To
be healthy in the process, these calories have to have a high
nutritional value. Exercise should also be included in this
lifestyle change. Exercise will burn calories while you are
engaged in it, but more than this, it will raise your metabolic
rate so that you burn more calories throughout the day.

You Do Not Necessarily Have To Eat Less

To lose weight, you may not have to eat less food. Many people
are overweight, not because they eat too much, but because they
eat food high in calories. A person who eats a large heaped
plate of salad will consume fewer calories than a person who
eats a small bucket of chips. A person who drinks water with
their meals will consume fewer calories than someone who drinks
a sugary soda. There is also substantial evidence that diet
sodas can prevent weight loss and contribute to weight gain,
not because of calories but because of the effect of chemicals.
This means that calories are not the only consideration in
choosing foods. Nutritional value and health benefits need to
be primary considerations in order to get the best long term
health and weight loss results.

You Should Eat Regularly

It is important to eat regularly for two reasons. Firstly,
hunger is the number one enemy of weight loss so it is
important to avoid more than mild hunger. If you get too
hungry, you can be tempted to just grab anything and totally
blow your daily goals. When we fail, it is easy for
discouragement to set in which can cause us to give up
altogether. Secondly, eating a number of small regular meals
throughout the day will increase your metabolic rate so that
you burn more calories.

If you avoid the fiction and stick to the facts, then your
weight loss journey has every likelihood of success. It is hard
to lose weight in our modern world with its fast-paced stressful
lifestyle and fast food fixes. That is why we really have to
reject this lifestyle to be successful. More than anything, if
you want to lose weight you need to change the way you live,
not just the amount of food you eat.

Weight Loss Diets: Fact And Fiction, Part 1

The weight loss industry is a booming industry worth billions
of dollars annually. It therefore should be no surprise that we
are constantly being bombarded with new `miracle' products and
weight loss programs that will shed the pounds quickly and
without much effort. Navigating the plethora of dieting
information to distinguish between fact and fiction can be
difficult, but it is certainly not impossible.

A good starting place to discover the truth is actually to
uncover the fiction. Once we know what isn't true, we can
concentrate on genuine information that supports weight loss.

Here are four of the most common weight loss myths:

Skipping Meals Will Help You Lose Weight

The idea behind this is that if you eat less food, you will
automatically lose weight. While on the surface this sounds
like it should work, it doesn't take into account the body's
metabolic response to what it sees as starvation. It slows
right down to give you the best chance of survival. This means
that you burn fewer calories. The truth of the matter is,
eating more often but smaller healthy meals raises the
metabolic rate and aids weight loss.

You Can Eat What You Want As Long As You Exercise

You have to do an awful lot of exercise to burn off a chocolate
bar. The value of exercise is not so much that it burns calories
(although that certainly helps), it is that it raises the
metabolic rate so that you burn more calories faster all
through the day. If you need to lose weight, you cannot eat
what you want. You do need to exercise discipline while you
shed those extra pounds.

Diet Pills Will Make You Slim

Diet pills do not make you slim. Most diet pills are designed
to suppress hunger and it is not eating as much that helps you
lose weight. However, diet pills do not control the calories or
fat content of the food you do eat, so you might eat less food
but still the wrong food. Furthermore, pharmaceutical diet
pills have unwanted side effects that can have long term
affects on your health. Some natural diet pills such as hoodia
gordonii have the advantage of suppressing appetite without
side effects, so if you must go down this path, they are the
preferred option. Nevertheless, simply eating less will not
guarantee weight loss unless the food you are eating is healthy
and calorie controlled so that you can lose weight and maintain
good health.

Calorie Restriction Is The Best Way To Lose Weight

The Calorie Restriction Diet is a controversial diet founded on
the belief that severe calorie restriction slows the aging
process. Many people believe that substantial calorie reduction
will reduce metabolic stress and in so doing, increase life
span. Calorie counting on its own is not good dietary practice.
While it is true that counting calories can be very helpful in
managing energy intake, the quality of those calories is very
important. The nutritional impact of the food eaten is very
important and will affect all aspects of health, including
weight stabilization.

The Top 7 Guiding Principles To Extraordinary Weight Loss In 7 Days

We, The Detox Diet Divas, Scrub the cells of our body to
uncover the vital, lean, happy, joyful being we were designed
to be! That's right: scrubbing, cleaning – detoxifying from the
inside out and the outside in. Getting the junk out.

You may be thinking… why do we want to focus on cleansing and
detoxifying at a cellular level? What does that have to do with
weight loss?!

The Diva's Answer: Cellular health has been the missing link in
zillions of diets on the market, and cleansing your cells will
not only melt away the pounds but will also give energy,
clarity, emotional balance, and vitality which you may not have
experienced since infancy.

When our precious cells and internal fluids are acidic from
eating too much sugar, refined and processed foods, coffee,
tea, alcohol, etc., etc., etc, they just aren't functioning at
top performance by any means. Your blood is fighting and
working like a crazy lady to maintain a clean, balanced
environment. As a matter of fact, blood must preserve a healthy
balanced internal pH of 7.3 (pH is measured from 0-14, 7 being
neutral – below 7 is acidic and above 7 is alkaline).

The KEY as revealed by Dr. Robert Young, in the pH Miracle for
Weight Loss: When the cells (which make up the blood) are
overly acidic, the blood will do anything it can to balance. It
will do so by stuffing the acidic waste in fat cells! The body
actually creates fat cells to carry acids away from your vital
organ, so these acids don't literally choke your organs to
death. Fat is a response from the body to an alarming condition
of acidosis. FAT IS SAVING YOUR LIFE!

So how do Diva's rejuvenate their cells for weight loss and
radiant living?

There are 7 Guiding Principles of the DETOX DIET DIVAS. These
principles take in to consideration all aspects of your life.
This is a program for living so it will encompass much more
than what you consume. Let's get started:

1. Drink Water - You know this one right? - Lots of water! 1
liter per 30 lbs. of your body weight. But did you know this?
You need to drink clean, purified, ALKALINE water. There are
many ways to alkalize water, but the simplest is by adding a
teaspoon of baking soda to a 16 ounce glass of water and then
add lemons. (Yes, lemons are alkalizing.)

2. Sweat - with low impact exercise. Great possibilities are
one or more of the following: elliptical machines, rebounders,
a fast paced walk, biking, swimming, or the latest . The key
here Diva's is to sweat, sweat, sweat! Acidic overload is
removed from the body when we perspire.

3. Consume Alkaline Foods – 80% of your diet should be
alkaline-based. What is alkaline? Green Foods: foods that have
life and oxygen like spinach, cucumbers, lettuce, grapefruit,
lemon, almonds (raw), and coconut milk. I have a detailed list
available at www.detoxdietdivas.com. And you're going to have
to let go of those highly acidic foods that are keeping those
acid fat cells happy. These include: Coffee, Black Tea,
Alcohol, sugar (or anything ending in "ose" like fructose),
honey and agave (although Stevia is okay), white flour, and any
processed foods. We want to rejuvenate our cells by eating foods
that are rich in energy and nutrients.

4. Reduce Stress – Most Diva's love these options: Yoga,
Meditation, Deep Breathing Exercises, Tai Chi and other martial
arts, reading, sitting by a stream…. The possibilities are
endless and wonderful to imagine!

5. Positive SELF-TALK – The words we speak and think have
tremendous power in impacting the acidity of your cellular
makeup. When you speak in positive, loving and uplifting ways,
the pH of your cells take a huge leap forward toward
Alkalinity. Think before you speak.

6. Take Nutritional Supplements and include a high quality
SUPERGREEN -- You'll give your body a huge helping hand if
you'll supplement the nourishment of your cells with vital
concentrated nutrients found in SuperGreens and mineral
supplements that alkalize the cellular fluids with sodium
bicarbonate, potassium, magnesium, and calcium.

7. Use the power of VISUALIZATION – Envision yourself right now
as that lean, radiant Diva you are. See yourself having attained
the weight and the extraordinary life you desire. The power of
visualization is HUGE!

Look at how you can incorporate these changes little by little
into all aspects of your daily living. Before you eat anything
ask yourself "is this going to help my cells or hurt my
cells.". If you are upset about anything, instead of reacting,
take a long deep breath in, then exhale slowly, and just let it
go. You will be giving your magnificent cellular makeup a
tremendous gift. If you want help, I'm available for individual
consultations.

Things You Must Avoid To Lose Weight Faster

Trying to lose weight is to struggle in itself. If we
inadvertently take in the wrong things, those things could slow
down or jeopardize our efforts to lose weight. Let us look at
what things you must avoid to help you lose weight faster.

We are bombarded with desires and advertisements that want us
to abandon our weight-loss efforts even though it is not in our
best interest.

Those promotional efforts that bombard us are usually also
trying to sell us the very things that we need to avoid.

The first thing to avoid when trying to lose weight is alcohol.
Alcohol is bad for you in more than one way when you're trying
to lose weight.

Alcohol is known for diminishing your inhibitions and
undermining your willpower. When you have alcohol in your
system, you are far more likely to give in and eat the foods
that will cause you to gain weight as opposed to lose weight.

In addition to that, certain types of alcohol also contain
carbs that are very difficult for your body to convert into
energy. These carbs are usually converted straight into fat
cells.

The next thing you need to avoid is additional sugar in your
diet.

If you add sugar to your diet this additional sugar reduces the
sensitivity of your cells to insulin. When that happens the
sugar goes to your liver where it is converted into fat,
instead of heading to your muscles where it is converted into
energy.

Depending on how serious you are about your weight-loss, you
also need to avoid fatty foods and oily foods.

These foods jeopardize your weight-loss efforts by giving your
body too much fat. Your body does need some fat for
functioning at its optimal level.

You do not need to refrain from eating anything that contains
fat. You just need to keep it to the moderate and low side.

If you avoid these things your weight-loss effort might still
not be easy but it will be a little easier.

About The Author: Tisha Diaz recommends the fat loss and weight
control program at http://www.losefatpro.com/ that will help you
get rid of those excess pounds and make you slim and trim.

Weight Loss Tips

Today, doctors are calling obesity our number one health concern
in the United States. Today, about 30% of the adult population in
this country is considered obese. In addition, 16% of children
between the ages of 6 and 19 are overweight. Though it has gained
a tremendous amount of attention in the past few years, the
problem is still on the rise.

One of this country's national health objectives is to reduce
the incidence of obesity to less than 15% of the adult population
by the year 2010. And, while there is a lot of talk about the
problem, many people don't seem to truly understand the steps
they need to take to get their weight under control.

Most of us understand that in order to lose weight you need to
burn more calories than you consume. However, many people attempt
to reach this goal by seriously restricting their calorie intake.
This type of dieting generally fails for two reasons.

First of all, when you begin to significantly reduce the number
of calories you consume, your body goes into starvation mode.
When in starvation mode, your body works very hard to hold onto
the fat that you have, decreasing the number of calories you're
burning. This means that your body is adjusting itself to the
reduced number of calories you're consuming.

Secondly, starvation diets are not realistic. We simply cannot
live on such restrictive plans for any significant length of
time. So, we begin to feel deprived, and before you know it,
we've given up on dieting.

Doctors believe that just after a starvation diet, our bodies
will quickly accumulate fat when we begin to eat again, as though
trying to make up for the famine it just endured. So, often, just
a few weeks after ending a diet, we find that we're fatter than
before. We feel defeated and as though losing weight is simply
not possible.

However, losing weight is possible if you approach the situation
correctly. There are two important pieces to the weight loss
puzzle. The first is adjusting your diet.

Adjusting your diet doesn't mean eating so little that you're
hungry nearly all the time. Adjusting your diet for permanent
weight loss means replacing your high fat, high calorie foods
with those that are healthier and contain fewer calories. By
eating the right foods, you can easily eat enough to feel
satisfied, but still lose weight. Avoiding hunger will help you
stick to your diet long enough to see serious results.

Take a look at the way you're eating. Get rid of the
hydrogenated fats like butter and replace them with healthy ones
like olive oil. Eat mostly chicken and fish – making red meats an
occasional meal rather than a regular one. Eat lots of fresh
fruits and vegetables, and make your breads and cereals only from
whole grains. Avoid processed foods. If you can make these
substitutions, you should lose weight automatically.

The second part of the weight loss equation is speeding up your
metabolism. You can make a significant difference in the number
of calories you burn each day, making weight loss and weight
maintenance far easier.

The fastest and easiest way to speed up your metabolism is to
exercise. Aim for 30 minutes of exercise most days of the week.
Walking is a great exercise that anyone can do. In addition, try
to make your life more active in general. Take the stairs instead
of the elevator and walk wherever you can.

Be sure to get in some resistance training, as well. Muscle, even
when resting, burns more calories than fat, so adding some
additional muscle is extremely beneficial. You don't need to aim
to be a body builder; just 20 minutes of strength training 3
times a week is enough to build some additional muscle. Strength
training will also help shape your body, making your weight loss
results more noticeable.

It is also beneficial to use foods to your advantage when it
comes to speeding up your metabolism. For example, eat those
foods that require lots of energy to digest, like raw fruits and
vegetables. Many raw vegetables actually require more calories to
digest than they contain!

In addition, try adding some tea to your diet. Tea has been shown
to speed up the metabolism and help oxidize fat. It may also have
the ability to inhibit the absorption of dietary fat into the
body.

One research study, conducted at Maastricht University in The
Netherlands, looked at tea's ability to increase thermogenesis,
burning fat and speeding up the metabolism. Many studies have
shown that caffeine helps speed weight loss, but tea seems to
have more potential than other beverages with caffeine.

Tea's catechins, a potent form of anti-oxidant, seem to work in
conjunction with the caffeine in tea to burn fat and speed up
metabolism. The study in the Netherlands came to this conclusion,
along with concluding that other substances often used to speed
metabolism, like caffeine with ephedra, simply are not safe
enough to be recommended as a weight loss supplement.

For those prone to being overweight, keeping the scale in check
is a lifelong project. But, armed with the right tools, including
a sensible diet, regular exercise and helpers like tea,
maintaining a normal weight for the long term is entirely
possible.

Enjoy Food And Lose Weight!

It's great to lose 20 lbs, but it can only happen 1 lb at a
time. Small steps lead to big gains (or losses) over a
period of time. This is obvious in the management of one's
own body weight. But things are getting harder, because we
are getting heavier. What has caused the growing endemic of
obesity in the west?

The answer - Our lifestyle.

We are beginning to pay a health price for the luxuries we
enjoy. We find ourselves in a position where material
wealth and professional recognition matter more than the
simple pleasures of life. Food is one of them.

We like food that tastes good and is easy to prepare. In
the supermarket, we go the distance by reading nutrition
labels, but generally gravitate towards the foods we love
the most. Acquired tastes are hard to overcome. This
article is not about giving up your favorite foods, but
looking at the art of eating in a different way. This will
help unlock your weight loss potential, and open up a whole
new world of food enjoyment.

OUR APPROACH TOWARDS FOOD.

Small changes have big payoffs, especially with eating.
Let's take a humble lesson from the French. They have a
simple strategy – Enjoy your food rather than gulping it
down. Chew it slowly and savor every bite. Pause between
beats and concentrate on the taste, texture, flavor and
consistency of food. Being undistracted (not reading the
newspaper, talking on the phone, watching TV) and
swallowing slowly promotes digestion and contributes to a
feeling of fullness. This is the art of food enjoyment.

FOOD AND STRESS.

When in stress, the most common coping mechanism is food.
Sounds familiar?

Boredom, fear, anxiety and excitement are all triggers for
food. Other causes like eating on the run, availability of
fast-food makes it easier to cheat. Isn't it surprising how
easy it is to grab a burger and soda (not ‘real' food) and
eat it on the run? Would it be as hard to buy steamed
vegetables, grilled meat and a glass of sparkling water?

PACE DOES MATTER.

Eating slowly has unique benefits. The presence of taste
buds on the tongue means that it is important to eat small
bites. This allows the brain to recognize the taste of the
food and relish it. The slower you eat, the more you enjoy
your food. As a bonus, you consume less food due to
increased satiety.

Ask yourself - When was the last time you savored food? Do
you remember your last meal? If so, what was it, and can
you describe the taste in vivid terms? If the answer is no,
then its time to relearn the art of food enjoyment.

Focusing on our food involves sitting down at a table
(don't stand and eat). Take 30-45 seconds to enjoy the
sight and smell of the food before you begin. Take small
bites. Chew slowly and sip water regularly. Enjoy the
food and take at least 20 minutes to complete your meal.
Do not distract yourself with other activities while
eating. This means none of the following – television,
business, reading or talking on the phone. Sit down and
enjoy your meal.

When food is viewed as a source of relaxation and refueling
(instead of an inconvenience), everything starts to fall
into place. The correct eating habits will help you to get
more results by helping your mind, body and soul.

Atkins Diet - A Straight-up Review

My husband and I went on the atkins diet several years ago.
This is the first time my husband has done any dieting. I on
the other hand have tried every diet know to mankind. Of course
he dropped 10 pounds the first week, and could not understand
why I am always saying that weight loss is difficult. I did
lose 6 pounds the first week so I had to agree that the diet
was working.

The first two weeks were difficult to get used to eating only
low carbohydrate foods. Once we got past that two week mark we
found that it was an easy diet for us to follow. On the atkins
diet you eat mostly protein. My husband has always been a big
meat eater so that part was easy. It was more difficult for him
to give up the potatoes and bread that he ate along with his
meat. We needed to find alternative foods that were allowed
on the atkins diet.

I bought the atkins diet book which not only outlines the diet
but also has recipes. It is amazing how you can eat a lot of
food on the atkins diet and still lose weight. The main
challenge is getting some variety into your meals. When we
first started the atkins diet the dinner meal was very easy to
prepare. We would have some type of protein, fish, animal
protein, chicken or beef and a large leafy salad with bleu
cheese dressing. This was not that different than what we ate
before it was just minus the potato and bread.

After a few weeks the lack of variety started to bore us. We
were both losing weight, so that helped keep us motivated, but
we were getting tired of the same meal each night. Then I
discovered some of the recipes in the back of the atkins diet
book. Our favorite is mashed cauliflower. It is the same
texture as mashed potatoes. The atkins diet book also had a
recipe for a salad that has all the same ingredients as potato
salad, minus the potatoes. You substitute cooked cauliflower. I
was doubtful at first, but it tastes wonderful.

Over the years we have added carbohydrates back into out diet.
Initially we both gained some of the weight back, but now we
have found the right balance for each of us. Long term with
very low carbohydrates did not fit our life style, or taste
buds, but the atkins diet was an effective way for us to take
off pounds.

How does law of attraction work in relation to weight loss?

In the simplest terms, Law of Attraction states that like attracts like and whatever thoughts and feelings you focus on the the most will literally determine your future. But how can law of attraction weight loss work?

You will find that the law of attraction has been working for you and every other person in this world since the beginning of time and it is only recently that education about its incredible power has become readily available to the general public.

So how can the Law of Attraction can help someone to lose weight? It is quite simple really, all they need to do is think about it. In fact without even knowing about it, most people really do not think about what they want but they think more about the fact that they do not have it. So by going back to the definition of Law of Attraction, you will see that the reason why people do not have the things that they want, is simply because all they ever do is think about NOT having them.

Unfortunately this same concept applies to weight loss just as it applies to everything else, and although a lot of people want to lose weight, they would rather think about how miserable they are because they have not lost the weight, rather than the wonderful life they will have once they're thinner.

Again let us refer back to the Law of Attraction. If you think you are miserable, sad, guilty or have low self esteem then the Law of Attraction will bring you more things to be miserable about rather than good things. In fact the more miserable you are about something, for example, weight loss, then the more powerfully you will attract more of the same since that is where you are focusing your thoughts.

Utilizing the power of the Law of Attraction for weight loss, you simply stop thinking about your situation in the negative manner and start having positive thoughts instead. As you can imagine, this is more difficult than it sounds, just ask anyone who's tried it. To be truly successful as many others are, you need the help of proper tools that allow you to automate the law of attraction as much as possible. There is no doubt the law works, it's simply a matter of taking advantage of the available tools to make it easier.

Hanif Khaki is the developer of Mind-Optimizer. For more information and undeniable proof of how thousands are magnetically attracting a thinner, healthier body by automating the law of attraction weight loss visit http://www.mind-optimizer.com

Can I Use the Law of Attraction to Lose Weight?

Some of the most popular questions I get asked by e-mail or at seminars is can I use Law of Attraction to attract more money, attract an ideal mate or to lose weight? Yes, you can use Law of Attraction to lose body weight, and I’m going to share with you my own personal journey on reducing my body weight over the past four years.

I used the Law of Attraction to attract the things I needed to do, know or have that were in alignment with my goal. Your list will likely be different than mine, but at the same time, only YOU know what YOU have to attract into your life to help YOU lose your body weight. The key is to pay attention to what you’re attracting and see if it’s in alignment with your desire to reduce your body weight. And if it feels good – DO IT.

Here is what I attracted and how it has helped me:

On Tour and Traveling with Sandy - First I attracted my assistant Sandy’s help. In 2005, Sandy and I traveled to 65 cities to deliver seminars. Before we arrived in each city, Sandy knew where the local health-conscious grocery stores were located, our favorite being Whole Foods Market®. (We especially loved the one located near Central Park, NY). Sandy’s eating habits and nutritional education has been very helpful to me and she has been totally supportive of my own newfound eating habits. Thanks Sandy.

My Daily Hiking/Running partner Geoff – Since 2002, I have been hiking in old growth forests in the west coast of Canada near my home in Victoria, BC. During the first year, Geoff and I hiked every weekend only... what a commitment that was for me! Plus for all of 2005 and so far in 2006, we have diligently hiked and/or run 6 mornings a week when I’m home. We meet at a local park at 5:30 a.m. each day and start from there on our journey and hike every morning… that’s where I get all of my energy! Thanks Geoff.

I have core muscles – That was a surprise to me. My dedicated fitness trainer, Astrid spent a year with me teaching me how to use my core muscle in my hiking, running, walking and during exercises. Astrid kept me on track. I owe the core muscle training all the credit for keeping me so active – especially on my 5K running schedule. Astrid is a Medical Exercise Specialist/Nationally Certified Personal Trainer. I highly recommend her "90-Day Healthy Habit Former" Check it out at http://www.unleashingbook.com/astridevent1.htm. Thanks Astrid.

Metabolism Education - Wanting to learn more about my metabolism, I had my friend Anna Kanary www.annakanary.com provide me with some excellent information about a metabolism balancing clinic called SureSlim® www.SureSlim.ca. Learning how to balance my metabolism (without having to use drugs or pills) has dramatically decreased my body size. Thanks Anna.

Eliminated food cravings – In 2004, my good friend Linda Storey www.everydaychoicescoaching.com, held a workshop in Victoria, BC, called "How to Use EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique) to Eliminate Food Cravings and Habits". At that workshop I used the EFT process (it’s SO simple!), to "tap away" any interest, cravings or desires I had for the following foods: french fries; bread; potato chips; soda pop; and ju jubes, and I have since yet to have indulged in any of those foods in over two years. That’s why I refer to Linda Storey as the ‘Queen of Removing Food Cravings’! Contact Linda at lindastorey@shaw.ca. She can help you too! Thanks Linda.

As you can see these were the five prominent things that I attracted. There have been many, many more attractions such as watching a documentary on metabolism on television and watching a program on how to hike when you’re overweight. These are all positive manifestations that are all in alignment to my desire to lose weight. If you see me on my seminar tour this year and you’ve seen me ‘live’ before, you will definitely notice my weight loss.

Raise your vibrations around attracting everything you need to do, know or have so you too can reduce your body weight and have a happy slender body if that is one of your desires.

Michael Losier, a Law of Attraction Trainer and author, supports people in understanding and practicing the Art of Deliberate Attraction, so they can have more of what they want and less of what they don't. Michael has been applying the principles of Law of Attraction for many years and enjoys a wonderful and rewarding life in the city of Victoria, BC, Canada. He facilitates a number of in-person Law of Attraction seminars as well as Teleseminars to a worldwide audience.

Myths About Losing Weight And Diets

Few commercialized areas of science are so filled with myths as that focused on weight loss. Everyone wants a simple, safe, no-willpower solution.

Someday, we may actually get one. For now there are no magic cures. But there are quite a few myths that need to be exploded.
_____________________
Weight Loss & Slimming Made Simple"Lose Weight Now! -- the Easy Way...
_____________________

You may have read this one: eating ice cream actually causes weight loss. The so-called theory is that since ice cream is cold, and it takes energy (measured in calories) to warm it up, your body is consuming energy while eating.

Your body does certainly require energy to warm up ice cream, and even to digest it. Any action the body takes requires energy, that's basic physics applied to physiology. But the devil is in the details.

Eating ice cream, usually high in fat and sugar, takes in far more calories than are used to warm and digest it. Sorry, you still need to go easy on the dessert.

Sometimes ice water is substituted in the myth. True it has no calories, so you're much better off. But the energy needed to warm it to body temperature is negligible in terms of the weight loss effect.

However, sometimes you feel hungry when in fact the body is just slightly dehydrated. Drinking water can cause you to feel less hungry, and it's much lower in calories than regular soda or even orange juice.

Or, you might have heard this one: adding a pound of muscle makes the body burn an extra 50 calories. Not only not true, but meaningless. 'Burns 50 calories' over how long? Just sitting consumes about 70 calories per hour.

The body is consuming energy to maintain internal temperature, repair cells, pump blood, etc.

A pound of new muscle will burn at most a dozen calories per hour. Still, adding muscle is a good idea, since to do so requires high effort - either through running, weight training or other vigorous exercise.

Mild exercise, such as walking, is good but tones more than builds muscle. The average man will burn about 350 calories in an hour long workout.

Vigorous exercise also raises the metabolic rate for a day, burning about 250 calories more than if one hadn't exercised.

A brisk walk will do so also, but at a much lower level. It's still a good idea to workout every other day and walk on the non-workout days. It keeps the muscles toned, stretched and helps prevent the lactic acid buildup that causes sore muscles.

The reality is that if you take in more calories than your body uses the remaining energy is stored, generally in the form of chemical bonds in fatty tissues.

When the body requires more energy that you've supplied, it will turn to those fat stores in order to get some needed energy.

That leads to lower fat in the body and weight loss. That reality is best achieved by the old-fashioned combination of proper diet and adequate regular exercise. About the author: Ydiets.com is an excellent place to find weight loss and diet resource, links and articles.

How Would You Like To Eat To Lose Weight

Getting rid of unwanted extra pounds is never easy but many of us make is harder than it really is. Skipping meals and drastically cutting calories will yield temporary results but you can achieve long term weight loss if you choose a slower approach. Basically, you need to eat to lose weight.

Weight Loss & Slimming Made Simple"Lose Weight Now! -- the Easy Way . . . Click Here!

I know you’re probably thinking that eating is what added the extra pounds in the first place. However, the kinds of foods along with a lack of exercise are more of a source of trouble than the actual act of eating. When you eat to lose weight you will find that you can take in more food and feel satisfied throughout the day.

So how do you eat to lose weight? The first thing you want to do is slow down. You are more likely to overeat if you scarf your meals down too quickly. You have to give your stomach enough time to tell your brain that it is full. I know it sounds silly but it does take time to process this information.

Choose whole foods. When you eat to lose weight, you are best off picking foods that are not processed. The more stuff that is done to the food, the more fattening it is likely to be. Natural foods are best and they take a little longer to eat. Raw veggies and fruits have to be chewed well and this takes more time than ingesting a piece of cheesecake.

You should not only eat to lose weight but drink to drop pounds as well. You have probably heard about the eight glasses of water each day so I won’t lecture. Drinking a nice, hot cup of tea can be as satisfying as a couple of cookies but it won’t add the pounds.

It is important to remember that many beverages can work against your weight loss efforts. If you eat to lose weight but drink as if you don’t have a care in the world, you probably won’t see very good results. Instead of drinking a glass of apple juice, just drink the apple. The sugar content in the juice is really concentrated and it’s almost like eating three or four apples.

In order to curb your appetite you might want to consider eating a handful of almonds about 20 minutes before your next meal. This is a great way to eat to lose weight because your brain is being told that you are receiving nutrients. Remember that you need to nourish your body in order to keep the pounds at bay.

Manifesting UnHandy Money And Weight

Recently I was in the company of a friend of my sisters. Her name for the purpose of this newsletter is Ginger.

Ginger is about 100 pounds overweight, not in great health, and has
money concerns.

Ginger is also very funny, and is a joy to be around. She makes me
laugh outloud a lot.

My sister made a comment about money. Then I made a comment
about money as to how good money is. Then totally out of left field,
Ginger made this comment: *It's no disgrace being poor, but it sure is
unhandy.*

I turned as if the moment was in slow motion. I said: *Ginger? Where
did that come from?*

Meaning...the wisdom of that comment and the way she said it, was
not what any of us knew about her.

She twice that day made a comment, that the next time around, she
was not going to lead a miserable life, noting that she was miserable
in her daily life.

Ginger was not making the statement from a victim perspective. She
was being very matter of fact, and had taken responsibility for her
own choices. She even said that as fact.

Ginger is married, with grown children and a husband. So for those of
you who thought maybe she was single and lonely, no, that's not it.
(As if being single equals lonely!)

That piece of wisdom that came from her, told me more about her in
that moment, than for as long as I had known her. I only knew her
casually, as she's been my sisters friend.

In her own words, and very matter of fact she said she had low self
esteem, and she knew it. But next time around she would do better.

Well......you cant be that way around me for too long before I'll open
my mouth a bit. And as soon as I began my thing, she began to
blossom, and actually in small ways began doing a few things that
day, she would not have done before.

My sister is watching this, and getting a bit jealous of the attention Im
giving her friend. So darn if I didn't have to fix that one later!

By the time I finished with Ginger, she had negotiated herself into a
job working for me and being paid 3 Million per year !

My point to this story is that she is like many of us. We might weigh a
bit more than we want to. We weigh more because it helps us to feel
better eating something for a moment, that then takes our mind briefly
off of our money lives, our relationships and our health.

For some of us, we are so deep into thinking that we have no hope in
our lives, that we live out our days like Ginger. Just getting thru the
day somehow.

Ginger never really complains. She doesn't complain about money,
just like many people, it would sure would be nice to have a lot more
of it. And she's right, there's nothing wrong about being poor, but it
sure is unhandy.

If you are poor, which then reflects in your life showing up in an
unhandy way, are you like Ginger? Have you resolved yourself to the
fact that there is no way out from where you are to where you want to
be?

If you weigh more than you'd like, have you resolved yourself to the
fact that you will always and must live in that body?

There is a way out. It involves being willing to expand into your next,
instead of staying still and swimming in the same bath water day after
day, year after year.

In simple terms, it means......teach yourself some manifesting skills.
They work, and then your life becomes quite *handy*.......

Oh and by the way, Ginger wanted to know if I used her wise
statement for my newsletter, was I going to pay her a royalty?

Seems her esteem button has moved up a notch or two!

When Ginger loses her 100 pounds, she's gonna be a power to reckon
with! All that buried wisdom will surface and I'd better move out of
the way or she will move me! (Susan James/Copyright)

How To Use Law Of Attraction Weight Loss

Weight Loss Vs. Fat Loss: Discover Why Your Scale May Be Your Worst Enemy

In your pursuit of a leaner body, you know doubt utilized a bathroom
scale to chronicle your progress. However, you may have been doing
yourself a grave disservice. As you know, a scale measures how much
weight you have lost, but it will never tell you where this weight was
lost from. This is where the problem lies. When dieting, your combined
weight loss could potentially come from fat loss, water loss, or muscle
loss. Obviously, the former is what we all want to achieve, and the
latter two are what we need to try and avoid whenever dieting.

Unfortunately, many of the fad diets claiming rapid weight loss are
often achieving this at the expense of water loss and/or muscle loss.

Generally speaking, if you are losing greater than two pounds per week
you are likely losing muscle as well.

The best way to monitor your progress when embarking on a new diet is
to measure your body fat percentage and your lean body mass. Lean body
mass is your weight excluding fat. Lean body mass includes bone,
muscle, and other fat free tissues with the majority of this being
muscle. By measuring these two items, you will be able to determine how
much fat you are losing and whether or not you are losing any muscle.

The simplest way to measure your body fat percentage is through
skinfold testing. If you know a personal trainer or other fitness
professional in your area, they will likely be able to take these
measurements for you. However, self skinfold testing is available with
the use of the “Accu-Mesure”, which can by found easily online.

Once you have determined your body fat percentage, you are ready to
calculate your fat weight and lean body mass. To calculate your fat
weight, multiply your total weight by your body fat percentage.

Remember to convert your body fat percentage to decimal form before
multiplying. I.e. 11% body fat would be converted to .11 Once you have
calculated your pounds of fat, subtract your pounds of fat from your
total weight in pounds, which will give you your lean body mass.

Armed with these simple equations, you will be able to track your
weight loss much more accurately than by simply using a scale alone.

You will know exactly where your weight loss is coming from, so you can
quickly make adjustments to your caloric intake to maximize your
results. For example, if your lean body mass decreases and your body
fat decreases, this should tell you there is to much of a calorie
deficit and you should increase your daily calorie intake slightly to
prevent the loss in lean body mass. Whenever you’re on a calorie
restricted diet, some loss in lean body mass and therefore muscle is
hard to avoid. However, this loss in lean body mass should be limited
to a few tenths of a pound per week. Initially, when first starting a
diet program, you will likely notice a larger drop in lean body mass
due to water loss. Don’t get alarmed by this. An obvious downward trend
in your lean body mass over time is definitely a concern.

It is beyond the scope of this article to discuss proper nutrition and
how to calculate daily caloric needs for weight loss; however, I will
mention a simple formula that can be utilized to get you in the
ballpark if you have average or better body fat percentages. To
calculate your total daily calories needed for fat loss, multiply your
total weight by 12-13. This will give you a good starting point. I will
also mention that spreading your calories out over 5-6 meals per day
with each meal consisting of approximately 55% complex carbohydrate,
30% lean protein, and 15% fat will give you the best chance of
permanent fat loss. Obviously, these percentages may not work for
everyone, but they are a great place to start. If you want to maintain
your hard earned muscle, it is also imperative you maintain a weight
lifting routine, while dieting.

I hope this information will help you achieve all your weight loss
goals and help you understand exactly how your nutrition and diet
program is affecting your body. There is certainly still a place for
the bathroom scale, but unless you’re also measuring the items above,
you will never fully realize the affect of your diet program and
reaching your full potential may be difficult. I wish you the best of
luck.

FDA approves non-prescription diet pill

RANDOLPH E. SCHMID
Associated Press

WASHINGTON - Dieters got a new tool Wednesday to help them take off the extra pounds - the first government-approved nonprescription diet pill. The Food and Drug Administration said the fat-blocking weight-loss pill orlistat, which has been available by prescription, can be sold in a reduced-strength version over the counter.

The new version will be sold as "alli" by GlaxoSmithKline PLC. Xenical, the prescription version, is made by Roche Holding AG.

The drug is intended for people 18 and older to use along with a reduced-calorie, low-fat diet and exercise.

Dr. Charles Ganley, FDA's director of nonprescription products, stressed that the drug is intended for use along with diet and exercise programs.

"Using this drug alone is unlikely to be beneficial," Ganley said at a telebriefing.

While some dietary supplements make weight-loss claims, Ganley said this is the first nonprescription drug approved by the agency for that purpose.

Ganley said in trials, for every five pounds people lost through diet and exercise, those using orlistat lost an additional two to three pounds.

When taken with meals, orlistat blocks the absorption of about one-quarter of any fat consumed. That fat - about 150 to 200 calories worth - is passed out of the body in stools, which can be loose as a result. About half of patients in trials experienced gastrointestinal side effects.

The agency recommended users take a multivitamin when using this drug.

The new drug would contain half the dose of Xenical prescription capsules. The price has not been set but is expected to run $1 to $2 a day, company officials said. The company estimated 5 million to 6 million Americans a year would buy the drug over the counter.

The Food and Drug Administration said the most common side effect of the product is a change in bowel habits including loose stool and some oily spotting. Eating a low-fat diet will reduce the likelihood of this side effect.

FDA said people who have had organ transplants should not take OTC orlistat because of possible drug interactions. In addition, anyone taking blood-thinning medicines or being treated for diabetes or thyroid disease should consult a physician before using orlistat, the agency said.

GSK Consumer Healthcare, which will market the pill, said it chose the name alli to indicate a partnership with consumers in their weight-loss efforts.

"We know that being overweight has many adverse consequences, including an increase in the risk of heart disease and type 2 diabetes," said Dr. Douglas Throckmorton, deputy director for the FDA's Center for Drug Evaluation and Research.

"OTC orlistat, along with diet and exercise, may aid overweight adults who seek to lose excess weight to improve their health," he said.

But Dr. Sidney M. Wolfe, director of Public Citizen's Health Research Group, called the approval "the height of recklessness." Wolfe said studies have associated the prescription version of the drug with precancerous lesions of the colon. He has also called for withdrawal of the prescription version.

Weight Loss Medicine

Obesity is a problem that is growing at an alarming rate affecting many people and it is also a factor that leads to other serious conditions such as heart disease or diabetes. Treatments can include prescription weight loss medication, over the counter supplements, or both.

Weight Loss & Slimming Made Simple"Lose Weight Now! -- the Easy Way...

Weight loss medication when combined with regular exercise and
a reduced calorie diet can help with weight loss. Different
medications affect the body differently. Some reduce the
appetite making a person feel full, while others speed up the
metabolism and burn fat, or even all three combined.

Prescription weight loss medication should be used only by
those that have an increased risk of another medical condition
because of a weight problem and they should be used only under
the direction of a physician. They should not be used for
cosmetic weight loss such as losing 10 pounds. Prescription
weight loss medicine has been approved for use on individuals
with a BMI that is above 30 or for those that have a BMI of 27
combined with obesity related conditions. Side effects from
prescription weight loss medications are generally mild however
as with any medication there is the potential for serious side
effects. You will need to discuss all of your options with your
doctor.

For those that are not in need of medical intervention for
weight loss but are looking for a cosmetic change in their
weight, there are many over the counter products which will do
the job. Choose wisely as some are more hype than effective. As
with prescription medications many reduce the appetite while
increasing metabolism and burns fat.

Some products contain ephedrine, ephedra, and caffeine and the
safety of these drugs is still unknown. There have been reports
that link these compounds to stroke, heart attack, and seizure
that can result in death. Some countries have banned the use of
ephedrine and ephedra. When using ephedrine or caffeine based
products always make sure that you are over 18, do not have any
heart problems such as high blood pressure and that you are not
pregnant or lactating. It is important to always use caution
when starting a new weight loss supplement and remember that
even though it is over the counter it is still potent.

With so many products out in the market place, there are many
which do not help with weight loss. So here are just a few that
appear to be showing promising results.

Conjugated Linoleic Acid or CLA has been involved in several
studies and has been found to reduce body fat, increase lean
muscle tissue and reduce the risk of cancer.

• Derived from a fruit, Hydroxycitric Acid or HCA inhibits an
enzyme that converts carbohydrates to fat and it also
suppresses the appetite. There have been mixed results in
studies. It is recommended that a diet lower in fiber will give
better results.

• Derived from the white kidney bean Phaseolamine works by
reducing the amount of starchy carbohydrates that the body
absorbs which means you absorb fewer calories to help with
weight loss. Studies have shown as much as 10% body fat loss in
30 days.

• 5HTP (5-Hydroxy-tryptophan) increases serotonin levels in the
brain which result in weight loss, improved sleep and better
mood. Studies have shown it is an excellent appetite
suppressant and results in excellent weight loss over a 6 week
period. Most users were happy while they lost their weight
thanks to its mood enhancing abilities.

L-carnitine is an amino acid which has been shown to
encourage the body to burn stored fats for fuel/energy instead
of carbohydrates. Very effective when taken before exercise.

The quest for the perfect body will never end and thus a multi
billion dollar industry will continue to flourish. Healthy
weight loss can be achieved by including exercise and good
nutrition with the right weight loss medication or supplement.
It’s important for a person to find the best combination for
their personal situation.
